Working with kiln formed glass for over 25 years, Fenella is now passing this beautiful skill onto you
Years of experience
It all began over 25 years ago...
I have been working with kiln formed glass for over 25 year. I was first introduced to this versatile art form in the mid 1990’s at Art College. I took time out from my career as a nurse at the time to do a BTec foundation diploma in Art and Design in Cambridge, which was both enjoyable and stimulating.
I majored in fusing glass as an art form, carrying out many experiments on compatibility in my garage using a tiny ceramic painting kiln. I also attended a week long Summer school on kiln formed glass at Wolverhampton University.
An artist in residence
An artist in residence
I became an Artist in residence at the Ramsey Ailwyn School in Cambridgeshire for a term taking year 9 students though the process from inspiration to a finished piece of art work. We drew from nature, made moulds, slumped glass in the kiln and I made a fused and stained glass panel alongside the young people as well.
After moving back to Essex I exhibited with the Essex Craft Society for a few years holding exhibitions in Braintree, Great Dunmow and Southend.
Career and Retirement
Nursing
I then had a big break from the art world concentrating once again on my nursing career. I finally retired in August 2016 and have taken up fused glass again, finding exciting new changes and innovation in the art glass world.

Workshops commissions and more
Now teaching you the art of glass...
I now run workshops for up to 8 people using my experience as a lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University and years of teaching and mentoring nurses and other health associated professionals. I run these locally to where I live but more unusually I will travel to a venue near you. I also run masterclasses and one to one tuition at my home.
